Eyes to the Sky
The author’s first thought of becoming a pilot was at age 15. Thereafter, the book follows his career when he obtained his naval aviator wings through his life in the sky. The stories relate his flying experiences around the world. Including his three tours in Vietnam. Trained Apollo 17 astronaut how to fly helicopters. Checked out a pilot for Marine Corps One, H-3 helicopter used for Presidential flights. In additions discusses my three tours in Vietnam. Third tour was with HAL-3 Seawolves flying Huey gun ships in support of the Brown Water Navy and the SEALS. HAL-3 was the most highly decorated helicopter squadron in the Navy. During my three tours I flew 808 combat missions and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, 21 Air Medals and 2 single action Air Medals. The book also talks about comical antidotes along the way and the terrifying ones. I was the Officer in Charge of a detachment of gunships in South Vietnam and was proud of the fact that we brought each one of the door gunners and pilots back safely.
